Profile

Mr. Daishiro Okada began his career at The Industrial Bank of Japan, Limited (now Mizuho Bank, Ltd.), where he accumulated extensive, long-term experience in financial practice, international transactions, international taxation, and organizational management. Deeply mastering the foundations of corporate finance, international transaction structures, taxation, compliance, and institutional decision-making at one of Japan’s leading financial institutions provided a vital foundation for his subsequent endeavors in global corporate management, organizational reform, and human capital management.

Later, Mr. Okada served as Director and Head of Taxes for the Deutsche Bank Group, overseeing international corporate taxation. Managing tax operations at a world-class financial institution requires a high level of expertise that goes beyond mere tax knowledge; it demands a comprehensive understanding of diverse national systems, corporate governance, risk management, and the international regulatory environment to bridge executive decisions with practical operations. Throughout this tenure, Mr. Okada cultivated deep expertise in institutional understanding, risk management, organizational governance, and strategic business judgment within international operations.

In 2005, he joined Square Enix Co., Ltd., and until 2007, he led its U.S. operations as President of Square Enix, Inc. Tasked with managing the overseas subsidiary of a world-renowned content enterprise, Mr. Okada navigated global market expansion, localized management, cross-cultural organizational leadership, and the business strategies and operational challenges unique to the creative industries. His experiences on the frontline of expanding Japanese content into global markets led to his profound understanding of entertainment, gaming, digital content, intellectual property, and creator support.

Upon returning to Japan, Mr. Okada served as General Manager of Corporate Administration at the Tokyo headquarters of Square Enix Co., Ltd. Tasked with the critical mission of organizational culture and work-style reform, he dedicated himself to building workplace environments that empower creative talent to maximize their potential. His initiatives extended far beyond traditional office management and general affairs. He drove the creation of "spaces" where creators, engineers, business units, and administrative teams could mutually inspire one another, fostering a corporate culture that drove organizational innovation and unlocked employee motivation and creativity.

Through his practice of Creative Workplace Dynamics, Mr. Okada has long focused on building environments that foster value creation in content production. In the content industry, exceptional works and services are not born of individual talent alone; they are supported by environments that encourage bold challenges, organizational cultures where diverse expertise intersects, psychological safety that removes the fear of failure, and spaces where people can grow autonomously. Mr. Okada has materialized these philosophies on the ground, establishing unique expertise as a practitioner who bridges creativity with organizational management.

Since 2017, as a Board Member of the Japan Life Shift Association, he has been actively engaged in public advocacy and practical initiatives addressing career development, lifelong learning, diverse work styles, the evolving relationship between individuals and organizations, and well-being in the "100-year life" era. As life expectancy extends, work styles diversify, and the dynamics between corporations and individuals shift, Mr. Okada continues to conceptualize frameworks that empower individuals to take ownership of their lives and enable organizations to unlock human potential.

In January 2019, he founded HLD Lab Inc. Through this venture, Mr. Okada aims to realize a society where individuals, organizations, and regions can fulfill their potential and co-create new value centered around happiness. His philosophy—which prioritizes human happiness, organizational sustainability, and societal connectivity over mere profit and efficiency—holds immense contemporary significance in the context of human capital management, well-being-focused corporate governance, regional revitalization, and sustainable organizational design.

Furthermore, Mr. Okada serves as Executive Director of the Japan DX Regional Revitalization Support Association, Special Advisor to the Japan Workation Association, and Board Member of the Game Culture Association, among other roles. He is actively involved in social co-creation initiatives that cross national strategy, regional revitalization, digital transformation (DX), Web3-type societies, workations, gaming culture, and well-being. By bridging urban and rural areas, corporations and communities, physical and digital realms, work and life, and industry and culture, Mr. Okada champions new ways of working, living, and creating value for the future of Japanese society.

The defining hallmark of Mr. Okada’s career lies in his proven track record of cross-disciplinary achievements spanning traditional banking, global finance, world-class entertainment, entrepreneurship, association leadership, regional revitalization, DX, Web3, and well-being. His precise risk management and institutional acumen forged in international finance, his executive leadership as President of Square Enix, Inc., his cultural and work-style reforms at Square Enix headquarters, and his social co-creation efforts at HLD Lab are all unified by a singular, consistent core question: "What is required for people and organizations to optimize value creation?"

Rather than viewing corporate management strictly through the lens of metrics and institutional frameworks, Mr. Okada approaches it as a holistic endeavor where people, organizations, culture, society, community, and technology intersect. This multifaceted perspective is invaluable when addressing complex modern challenges such as legal affairs, corporate governance, organizational development, intellectual property, the content business, regional revitalization, human capital management, and societal design in the DX and Web3 era.

At SAKURA Law Office, Mr. Okada will leverage his wealth of practical experience, management insight, extensive network, and deep perspective on social co-creation to advise on corporate management, organizational development, the content business, regional revitalization, well-being, human capital management, and societal design for the DX/Web3 era. His addition significantly strengthens the firm’s capability to transcend traditional legal boundaries, allowing us to offer more multifaceted and effective solutions to the complex challenges facing corporations and society today.
